Does Scripture actually forbid this?
Yes, clearly. The New Testament calls it porneia and warns against it consistently (1 Corinthians 6:18; Hebrews 13:4). The design of marriage is a public, lifelong covenant.
What if we already live together — what should we do?
Begin with honest confession before God (1 John 1:9). Then let that confession bear fruit in a clear decision — marry soon, or live apart until you do (Proverbs 28:13).
Is the church obligated to get involved?
A healthy church will want to help rather than judge. This is a step taken in freedom, not shame, and the community of believers is there to carry the cost of it with you.
